Awards and Recognitions

Imazon has received 22 awards and recognitions that demonstrate the relevance of its work for the conservation and socio-environmental development of the Amazon: 2023

• MapBiomas Network, of which Imazon is a member, received the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship’s Collective Social Innovation Award. The ceremony took place during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

2022

• Awarded the Path to Sustainability Medal of Honor by the Instituto de Desenvolvimento Florestal e da Biodiversidade (Ideflor-Bio).
• MapBiomas Network received the Skoll Award for Social Innovation from the Skoll Foundation.

2021

• Received the “Amazônia para Sempre” Diploma from the City Council of Belém.
• The PrevisIA artificial intelligence deforestation prediction platform was recognized in IT Mídia’s award as a Microsoft case, in partnership with Imazon and Fundo Vale.

2018

• Best NGO in Northern Brazil and among the 100 Best NGOs in Brazil in the Melhores ONGs 2018 Award.

2017

• Imazon and Mineração Rio do Norte won 1st place in the Pará State Innovation Award in the Mineral Industry with the Sustainable Territories Program. The award ceremony took place during the XIII Pará Industry Fair.

• Researcher Beto Veríssimo was named one of the 100 most influential Brazilians by Época magazine.
• Veríssimo also won in the “Society – Sustainability” category of the Faz Diferença Award from O Globo newspaper.

2012

• Top 3 in the Greenvana GreenBest 2012 Award (NGO category).
• Received the Mérito Célio Miranda honor from the City of Paragominas.

2011

• 1st place in the Greenbest Award (NGO category).
• Researcher Carlos Souza Jr. named to the International Biographical Centre’s Top 100 Scientists list.
• Researcher Beto Veríssimo recognized by Alfa magazine as one of the Men of the Year.

2010

• Won the Skoll Foundation Award for Social Entrepreneurship.

• Paragominas, in the state of Pará, won 1st place in the Municipalities category of the Chico Mendes Award, granted by Brazil’s Ministry of the Environment (MMA), thanks to the implementation of the Green Municipality Project, carried out in partnership with Imazon.

2009

• Received the Marina Silva Merit from the City of Belém, through the Municipal Secretariat of the Environment (Semma).

2008

• 1st place in the Chico Mendes Award (NGO category) from Brazil’s Ministry of the Environment.

2006

• The Environmental Biosphere Institute and the Brazilian Institute of Specialized Studies (Ibrae) awarded the National Distinction Diploma in Environment, Sustainable Development, and Social Responsibility to Luis Carlos Estraviz Rodrigues, who was Chair of Imazon’s Board of Directors at the time.

2004

• Honor to Merit Title from the Legislative Assembly of Pará.

2001

• Won the USAID Award from the United States Agency for International Development.

1997

• Won the Henry Ford Environmental Conservation Award (Science and Human Resources Training category).
