Programs
Aims to assess the effectiveness of public policies and private sector initiatives within the low-carbon development agenda, following nature-based practices and with social inclusion for the Brazilian Legal Amazon. To this end, the program is one of the leading institutions of the Amazônia 2030 project, an initiative with the overarching goal of proposing a sustainable development agenda for the region.
The program is also responsible for preparing and publishing the Social Progress Index (SPI) of the Brazilian Legal Amazon, which measures the quality of life of Brazil’s 211 million inhabitants, spread across the country’s 5,570 municipalities. In addition, the program conducts research on cattle ranching in the Amazon, a land-use activity that currently occupies nearly 90% of deforested areas. Due to its interdisciplinary nature, the results of the Policy and Socioeconomics program have helped both the public and private sectors make better decisions to sustainably develop the region.
