In 2009 two new land laws were published: one by the Federal Government and the other by the Pará State Government. Both deal with rules for regularizing occupation of public lands, but have differences regarding the requirements and processes for issuing land titles.
In this The State of the Amazon we analyze the implications of these laws and their regulation for defining property rights and environmental conservation in Pará. Finally, we recommend measures for improving application of these laws.
