Researcher presents data on cattle ranching at an event attended by representatives from Asian Countries
Data from Radar Verde was used to explain the beef supply chain for the Chinese market
19/06/26
On June 18, Imazon researcher Amintas Brandão Jr. participated in the seminar “Unveiling Invisible Emissions: Collective Advocacy for Sustainable Meat Supply Chains in East Asia,” organized by Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC), Mighty Earth, and WWF China. Held virtually, the event brought together experts from across Asia to discuss the climate impacts of beef supply chains and pathways toward more sustainable food systems.
Brandão presented findings from the Radar Verde project with a focus on the Chinese market, underscoring the role of traceability and socio-environmental monitoring in building supply chains that can reliably deliver sustainable products.
The debate brought together representatives from South Korea, Japan, China, and Brazil, addressing topics such as the growth in meat consumption in Asia, methane emissions associated with beef industry production, and the role of companies, governments, and consumers in reducing the sector’s environmental impacts. Among the topics discussed were the challenges and opportunities for establishing sustainable, deforestation-free beef supply chains.
According to Amintas, initiatives like Radar Verde help connect international markets with reliable information about the origin of Brazilian products. “Having access to solid data is key to supporting more sustainable purchasing decisions and driving progress in supply chain governance, especially in strategic markets like China,” he said.
